An Ideal Place to Have a Celebration of Life in Houston
A Private, Welcoming Space for Up to 99 Guests
When you’re looking for a place to have a celebration of life, you’re usually working through a long list of decisions while also trying to grieve your loved one. Up Above Venue is a private event space in Houston, TX built to take most of that list off your hands — a room set before you arrive, staff on site the whole time, and cleanup handled when it’s over.
Our space holds up to 99 guests, which is the size most celebrations of life actually are. Tables, chairs, linens, audio-visual, day-of coordination, and on-site security are all included in the rental, so there are no separate vendors to line up and no surprise costs on the essentials.
We’re minutes from 610 and I-45 South, with front and rear parking, so relatives coming in from out of town or from Pasadena, South Houston, and Deer Park can find us easily.

our space
A Space That Adapts to How You Want to Remember Them
Some families want everyone seated together for a meal. Others want people moving through the room, stopping at a photo display, stepping out to the patio. Up Above Venue’s main hall handles either, and most gatherings end up somewhere in between — a served lunch first, then a longer open stretch with no fixed program.
The lounge and the outdoor patio come with your rental as well. Both get used heavily at a gathering like this, because guests need somewhere to step away for a few minutes without leaving.
why us
What Makes Up Above Venue a Good Place to Have a Celebration of Life
Up Above Venue offers a handful of things that matter specifically when you’re planning a gathering like this one.
The Right Size for the Occasion
Most celebrations of life fall between 50 and 100 guests. With capacity for up to 99 guests, Up Above Venue is ideal for a full and warm celebration of life.
Exclusively Yours for the Day
When you book Up Above Venue, the entire space is yours. This includes the main hall, lobby, bar area, and outdoor patio. No other events will be running alongside yours, and no strangers walking through. On-site security is included, so your family controls who comes through the door.
Day-of Coordination Included
Our on-site team handles vendor arrivals, timeline, and logistics for the whole gathering, and comprehensive cleanup during and after. This is the part families tell us matters most; nobody should be stacking chairs at the end of a day like this.
A Patio and Lobby to Step Into
The outdoor patio and the lobby’s lounge seating give guests somewhere quieter to go without leaving. It’s a small thing that makes a long afternoon easier on everyone.
Tables, Chairs and Linens Already Set
Round tables seating up to 10 each, rectangular tables for a memory table or buffet, seating for up to 99, and taffeta and satin linens are all provided and arranged before your guests arrive.
Six Hours of Event Time
Six hours are included in the standard rental at Up Above Venue, with additional hours available. Most celebrations of life typically run two to three hours, so there’s plenty of time for setting up, for guests who linger, and for a longer afternoon if that’s what the day turns into.
A Large Display Screen, Included
Our display screen, surround sound, and integrated speakers come with every rental, already set up at no extra charge. Run a photo slideshow, a video the family put together, or their favorite music through the house system. No AV to rent, and nothing to coordinate.
Easy to Reach, Easy to Park
Minutes from 610 and I-45 South, with front and rear parking and wheelchair accessible parking available, which matters when older relatives are driving in.

Ways to Tell Their Story
A celebration of life is built around one person, and it’s the details that carry that, from the photographs to the music to the things people stand up and say. Up Above Venue includes the equipment for all of it, set up before you arrive and at no additional charge.

Flexible Catering Options
Food is usually what keeps guests in the room long enough to actually talk to each other. Up Above Venue keeps this side flexible, with a prep kitchen on site and three ways to handle it.
Full bar area access with unlimited ice is included, and we’re BYOB friendly — no glass, no coolers. If you’re serving alcohol, a TABC-certified bartender is required and available as an add-on. Waitstaff, a dessert table, and a custom cake are also available as optional add-ons.

planning
Planning a Celebration of Life in Houston
If you’ve never arranged one of these, these are the questions that come up first. Straight answers, so you can get to a plan.
When to Hold It
There’s no required timeline, and this is the main practical difference from a service held at a funeral home. Because a celebration of life is separate from the burial or cremation, the date is yours to choose. Most are held between two weeks and several months afterward. Waiting is common and not disrespectful. It gives relatives time to book travel, and it gives you time to plan properly rather than in a single week.
How Long It Runs
Two to three hours is where most land. That’s long enough for a meal, for several people to speak, and for guests to spend real time with the photos and with each other. Much shorter tends to feel clipped, and much longer and guests start drifting out.
How Many People Come
Usually 50 to 100. Attendance is often higher than families expect, because the guest list isn’t limited to whoever could get to a graveside service on a weekday morning. Coworkers, neighbors, and old friends can come when it’s scheduled in advance.
What It Costs
Venue rental in the Houston area runs from a few hundred dollars to several thousand, depending on the space and how much it includes. Commonly reported figures put a fully catered celebration of life between roughly $3,000 and $11,000, while gatherings the family organizes themselves more often land between $500 and $2,000. Catering is almost always the largest single cost, at roughly $20 to $100 per guest.
What moves the number most is how much the venue already covers. Tables, chairs, linens, AV, security, day-of coordination, and cleanup are separate line items at a lot of spaces and are all part of the rental at Up Above Venue, so the quote you get is close to what you actually pay. Weekday rentals are available Monday through Thursday at an hourly rate. See our pricing page for current details.
Places to Have a Celebration of Life
Homes, parks, churches, restaurants with a private room, and dedicated event spaces are all common. Homes and parks cost the least and ask the most of you on the day. Someone in the family ends up setting up, running it, and cleaning up, which is a lot to take on that week. A private event space like Up Above Venue may cost a little more up front, but it takes all of that back off your hands.
Looking for Something on the Day of the Service?
If what you need is a room for the meal directly following a funeral or graveside service, that’s a slightly different day with a different rhythm — see funeral luncheons and receptions for more information.
